Barstow Bridge Expected To Open Late August

Barstow Bridge May Open in AugustLenwood Grade Separation Project Well Under Way

Great news – the Lenwood Grade Separation Project is nearly complete! Experts on the project are claiming that the Barstow Bridge may open in August, which is great news for both locals and nonlocals alike.

The Lenwood Grade Separation Project jumpstarted in May of 2011 with hopes that the project would be complete within four years. Since this goal was unable to be met, an extension was requested. The Barstow City Council approved an extension to the city’s project agreement, extending the expiration date to June 30th, 2017. While construction is expected to be well complete by that date, the extended expiration date is necessary to ensure that agreements made are kept in place.

With the bridge opening soon, both residents of Barstow and those traveling to and through the region can enjoy enhanced traffic flow. Since traffic demands are not dwindling down any time soon, this project is favorable both today and in the long run. The Lenwood Grade Separation Project will widen Lenwood Road so that there are two extra lanes in both directions. The Barstow Bridge will elevate Lenwood Road about 35 feet, over the BNSF railroad tracks. The intersection that holds both Main Street and Lenwood Road will also be elevated about 10 feet.
