Project to Widen Highway 395 Expected to Begin in 2018

Hwy 395

Highway 395 to be extended to two lanes in each direction.

U.S. Highway 395 is currently a two-lane highway, but with increasing traffic in the area, it is desperately in need of an expansion to a four-lane expressway. This Highway 395 widening project is exactly what Caltrans intends to do. The $483 million project will widen Highway 395 to two lanes in each direction and will also include 8-foot shoulders and a widened 14-foot rumble strip median. The project area will be from the I-15 in Hesperia to Colusa Rd. in Adelanto, and will be split up into 3 phases. The first phase of construction will start at Palmdale Road and end at Chamberlaine Way. The second phase will be from Chamberlaine Way to Colusa Road. Phase Three will start work at I-15 and continue to Palmdale Road. The entire project is expected to take approximately 3 years to finish. According to Caltrans officials, Phase One of the project is expected to break ground in 2018 and the last phase is expected to be completed by 2021.

Highway 395 is well-known as a recreational vehicle and trucking route. This widening project is important to the community because not only will it help to alleviate traffic, it will also improve public safety along the road.
