Adelanto Mayor Wants Zone Opened for Asian Development

As stated in an article in the Victorville Daily Press, March 27, 2017, if there is a renewed Asian investment in the U.S. under President Donald Trump’s administration, Adelanto wants to be prepared. Mayor Rich Kerr has directed city staff to review the possibility of opening up a swath of underdeveloped land on Adelanto’s west side for such a shift. “We’re going to open up a bit more of our land to entice them to come over,” Kerr said, “and put another two-to-three thousand residents to work.” He was speaking of investors in countries like Korea and Japan, and potential business opportunities here like a Nike shoe factory. In fact, Kerr said he and economic development consultant Jessie Flores have already engaged Asian developers. The industrial zone expansion, which Kerr said was not particularly proposed with commercial medical marijuana in mind, would be south of Air Expressway, a mile east of El Mirage, west of Koala Road and north of “Industrial.”
