Looking Over Project Plans

Big Lots Distribution Center Construction Progresses in Apple Valley

According to the Victorville Daily Press, January 5, 2018, preliminary work continues to advance on the 106-acre parcel that will serve as the future home of discount retailer Big Lots’ distribution center, which is expected to employ upwards of 500 workers once operational in Apple Valley. Haskell, a Floridabased engineering and development company, began pre-site grading after the town issued a permit for the work on Dec. 11, 2017, and town spokesperson Gina Whiteside said the contractor had tentative plans for a foundation slab pour on Jan. 15, 2018. Assistant Town Manager Lori Lamson said the town was hopeful for a 2018 completion date for the nearly 1.4-million-square-foot facility. The $120 million project investment by Big Lots will include street and infrastructure improvements in the vicinity of the distribution center, according to previous Daily Press reports. Additionally, the town expects to earn $2.8 million in Development Impact Fee payments and an estimated annual property tax revenue of more than $600,000.
